Read the Highlights from the Opening Ceremony

Opening World

The WSC week will start off with our traditional Opening Ceremony & Welcome Reception. All delegates are welcome to watch the Opening Ceremony on 11 July from 13:00-13:45 BST. We will be welcomed by ISI President John Bailer - who most members already know through his monthly President's Column. Our host for this event and the WSC week, Professor Jennifer Rogers will read a quote from H.M. Queen Máxima of The Netherlands. Queen Máxima is the UN Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development Member of The Netherlands Committee for Enterprise.

The International Prize in Statistics will be awarded to Professor Nan Laird. Statistics Netherlands' Director-General Angelique Berg will speak and we will also hear from our WSC 2021's Scientific Programme Committee Chair Nalini Ravishanker, whose hard work along with her Committee has made it possible to have a wide array of statistical talks and presentations during the WSC.

We will not be all speeches as we will have a little entertainment throughout. A compilation video from some of our most enthusiastic members and delegates - and a surprise performance that we cannot put into words ... so you will just have to join us!

Be sure to stay after the Opening Ceremony whatever time it may be for you because you cannot miss our Welcome Reception that follows from 13:45-15:00. Meet your fellow delegates in smaller breakout rooms where you will be given a challenge! This will be sure to get everyone guessing ... something we will keep quiet about as you will have to join to find out. So we will see you on Sunday 11 July from 13:00-15:00 for an entertaining and fun two hours to start our WSC week!
